Here's the deal:
I have adapted a classical plot taxonomological system (made with stuff like Oedipus Rex in mind) to IPP2; that is ClassicBlurb. It outputs a kind of synopsis of a plot. Now, there's good news and bad news about ClassicBlurb:
The Good News is that ClassicBlurb will reliably generate some pretty screwed-up situations: humanity at its highest and lowest, with very little in between. It doesn't have anything about cannibalism, so some of the really shocking Greek and Roman stories about wronged wives who cook and feed their sons to their traitorous husbands are out -- but there's still some pretty strong stuff in here.
Remember, back in the day they didn't have special effects, so they had to get their entertainment value in other ways.
The Bad News is that, while I have gone to the greatest lengths to make ClassicBlurb a smooth-running random plot generator, the IPP progarm (available free online: http://www.nbos.com/products/ipad/ipad.htm) is not meant to handle certain kinds of situation. It has no memory; can't have one. So, every now and then you'll encounter tiny little inconsistencies, like:
In my opinion, taking such contradictions as opportunities to apply your creativity can be a great source of inspiration. Like AutoBlurb, ClassicBlurb is not meant to do your plotting for you, but only to provide a kind of mental jolt when you can use one.
Like AutoBlurb, ClassicBlurb is a text file, and can be easily edited to suit your own purposes. It is distributed free of any restriction and with no garuntees.
Siincerely,
Conrad.
ps - Credit to Georges Polti for the plot taxonomy scheme: read all about it here: (http://www.wordplayer.com/archives/poltisitu.01-12.html).
I'll integrate this with AutoBlurb to create AutoBlurb2 -- with some minor updates and streamlining -- and post it to this same page. |
